The three paintings on the wall in front of you were initially part of a massive altarpiece for the main church in the city San Sepolcro. At the time, it was the largest altarpiece ever commissioned in Italy. The artist, Sassetta, created each painting in Sienna. When completed, the paintings and elaborate altar structure were carefully packed into wagons, carted across mountains and unpacked and assembled in San Sepolcro.
